Kendrick Lamar Duckworth is an American hip hop recording artist born on 17th June, 1987 Compton, California. His parents were from Chicago, Illinois. The hip hop star was given the name Kendrick by his mother in her honor of the famous singer, Eddie Kendricks. Kendrick’s desire to do music dates back to when he as a teenager when he witnessed his musical icons, the late Tupac Shakur and Dr. Dre filming a video for their hit single California love. This experience is what inspired the young teenager to start doing his own music. In 2003, when he was 16 years old, he released his first ever music project, a mix tape with the name Youngest Head Nigga in Charge (Hub City Threat: Minor of the Year) under the stage name K-Dot. This mix tape was released to the public by Konkrete Jungle Muzik and it received much local recognition. This recognition earned him a recording contract with Top Dawg Entertainment. This was the beginning of Lamar’s success in the hip hop music industry after which he released several successful singles and mix tapes.
His latest album, To Pimp a Butterfly has received tremendous positive review among his fans worldwide. This album debuted at both the UK and US top charts. The album’s lead single, “I”, earned him his first two Grammy awards in 2015 for Best rap song and best rap performance. Later, Lamar and Taylor Swift’s hit single Bad Blood, reached number one at the US top 100.
