Jordin’s weight loss journey

The actress and singer has lost over 50 pounds in 18 months! Her secret lies in the fact that she made her health rather than her jeans size a priority. This, she said during an interview, made her never feel like she was suffering by eating less and exercising more. Instead, she was subconsciously losing weight and in the right way. Her weight loss occurred in a well-planned 3-phase program. Here is a summary of her tips and what she did in the 18 months that worked her miracle weight loss.

Phase 1: Change of mindset

This, Jordin says, took four months and is what helped her lose the first 15 pounds. Before making any accomplishment in life, a change of mind is the first thing to consider and weight loss is not any different. One needs to accept the changes that are going to come with the weight loss efforts.

This is the most important part of any weight loss routine. Although in Jordin’s case, the work outs were purely for bettering her health. Whether you are doing it for health reason or weight loss reasons, workouts will definitely help shed off a couple of pounds anyway. The secret here is to find the exercises that you love doing. This will make it a lot easier because you will be looking forward to and not dreading the work=out sessions.

In the starting phase, you should ask yourself why you are eating. Are you really hungry or you are just eating for the sake of eating. This, however, does not mean that you deprive yourself of the things you love, rather, it’s about taking the right portions and at the right time. Also, you can snack on fresh fruits.

Phase 2: Building Muscle

The second phase is more about getting on a routine exercise program that will help you build more muscles. Usually, strength training exercises convert fat to muscle which in turn boosts metabolism. Jordin does bicep curls, triceps extensions and shoulder presses daily.

At this point, avoid carbs in the evening and snack on fruits rich in fiber such as berries.

Phase 3: Varying your exercises

In Jordin’s case, she started doing swimming, hiking and a form of Zumba called Sensazao for a change. For you, it can be aerobics or whatever works for you. It should be what you love doing to keep you going.

Jordin says her breakfast consists of protein shake, fruit or a protein bar. For lunch, some grilled chicken arugula salad, olive oil and lemon does it for her. Dinner is a 3 or 4 ounce steak with corn and vegetable salad. Her go-to snack usually Greek yoghurt.
